Which Side of the Bed

Ever wondered why we choose a side of the bed in partnership and no one changes it? Regardless of where you are, once there is a side that you gravitate to there is an unspoken rule. Your house, my house, the boat, a hotel, your kids house, it doesn't matter. It's as though when a partnership gels so does the longitude and latitude of the sleeping arrangement. I realized that Lewis was always on Starboard side on the boat. At his house as well. My previous partnership, my ex slept on Port. Typically, I think the man gives the woman the side closest to the bathroom as a courtesy. Chivalry is not dead! I moved my items from my bedside table to the other side so Lewis would have the same side no matter where we were and I was closest to the bathroom. It's the little things in life that keep it interesting. Appreciation creates gratitude, and where there is gratitude there is joy. However, when at Lewis's house, the photo's on that side were of his deceased wife and father on the bedside table. Uggg, how do I broach that?

A Norther was blowing in so we planned our Saturday night dock dinner to be at Larry's house and invite everyone we would have had on the dock. Lewis worried over who to invite. I suggested we invite them all and let them decide. Those who did not like us seeing one another did not attend, but we enjoyed the day cooking together anyway and it was a great turnout regardless.

The passive resistance became obvious. Why couldn't they just be happy that Lewis had a partner? He was no longer alone after 12 years as a widower? What had I done to offend any of them? It hurt to feel so hated but I focused on the fact that it was only a few. Time would tell wouldn't it?

I had spent over a decade dating nothing but "Montane Voles". Had I finally stumbled, though clumsily on a "Prairy Vole"? Oh you haven't heard of the Vole or the difference?
